A rainy day at the palace

We headed into the smoke for the Changing of the Guard today. Just as we got to Buckingham Palace and found a place to watch, it started to rain. A cold, hard, long rain. Luckily for the guards, and us, it stopped just in time. We were able to dry off and put the brellies away and enjoy the show. There was a lot of waiting in between and David made a new friend who was very knowledgeable about the Changing of the Guard, the palace and the police. They talked the entire time we were there.
Since we were so close, we went to the royal mews after. We were able to see the Queen's horses and carriages. There was a lot of gold on the carriages!
After the mews and lunch we (walked and walked and walked...another bus mishap) went to Westminster Abbey. David was in history heaven. He really enjoyed walking around and seeing all of the graves for the famous people buried there (Darwin, Kipling, Newton, Dickens and the king's and Queen's).
As we headed back to the train, we were on the lookout for a candy store (truthfully, we were always looking for one!). We stopped in at a hat makers shop and Grandpa bought himself a proper British cap. Then, everyone but David headed back to the flat for dinner. David stayed in London to do a bit more sightseeing and have dinner at an Indian restaurant before heading back. It was another fun, filled day of touring around.
