This day has been a long day in the making, a process that was started back in October. We had a few set backs along the way.
David does not like fan fare. If he could have it his way, this day would have come and gone like any other day. Unfortunately, that is not how it happened at all. In fact it was quite the opposite- so opposite that the Brigadier General of the Ga. Army National Guard ended up being the one to swear David in as an officer while his unit watched on.
(from the Georgia National Guard FaceBook page)
Brigadier General Joe Jarrard administers the oath of office to David Rygmyr as his wife, Audrey Rygmyr witnesses. Rygmyr, who served with the 4th Weapons of Mass Destruction- Civil Support Team as the heath care NCO at the rank of Sergeant First Class, received a direct comission to the rank of 2nd lieutenant with the Georgia Army National Guard.
Direct commissions are rare in the military and the Army only offers them in the medical, legal and chaplain career fields. Rygmyr is the only officer receiving a direct commission out of the 200 officers commissioned into the Georgia Army National Guard over the last two years. Rygmyr earned his Master's degree in Biology from Clemson University and met extensive criteria required by Army Medical Department (AMEDD), which qualified him as eligible for commissioning.
2nd Lieutenant Rygmyr will serve in his new position as the Nuclear Medicine Science Officer in the 4th WMD-CST managing a mobile lab.
