A friend from Georgia (Lindsay Eaker Martin) and her family had bed stained at Fort Myer for the last year and a half and she told us about visiting the Cassion so we planned a day and met them there. It was so cool to see and one of the soldiers gave us a tour and explained a lot of what they do. The Cassion at Arlington has 4 teams (2 grey, 2 black) and every day one team of each color supports two funerals. We learned a lot of interesting things like why they put the boots in the stirrups backward for a commanding general who died in battle (so he doesn't turn his back in his troops). We also learned that there are some animals buried in Arlington.
The kids were able to feed a few of the horses some hay and pet them. We had a great time there and we are so glad they told us about that.
Ft Myer is on the backside of Arlington so we walked through there and saw the Confederate memorial and the tomb of the unknown. While we were at the tomb, we were lucky to see the changing of the guard.
It was such a great way to spend a day.
