Solar eclipse!
It has been 31(or 34) years since the last time solar eclipse went across North
America. The whole country was excited. Some people traveled hours (and
thousands came from other countries) to get into the path of totally.
Grandpa and Grandma Anderson were lucky enough to live in the path!
Here in MD we had 80%. That was fun to watch. We made a pin hole box to view the eclipse in. (I don't understand the science of how that worked, but it did!) It was really fun to watch.
Grandpa and Grandma experienced two minutes of darkness and the temperature dropped 22°.
I an adding a few pictures that a friend in Georgia took (they drove an hour to be in the path of totality) (photo credit: Jeff & Judy Brock, Kennesaw, GA)

The Cassion at Fort Myer
A friend from Georgia (Lindsay Eaker Martin) and her family had bed stained at Fort Myer for the last year and a half and she told us about visiting the Cassion so we planned a day and met them there. It was so cool to see and one of the soldiers gave us a tour and explained a lot of what they do. The Cassion at Arlington has 4 teams (2 grey, 2 black) and every day one team of each color supports two funerals. We learned a lot of interesting things like why they put the boots in the stirrups backward for a commanding general who died in battle (so he doesn't turn his back in his troops). We also learned that there are some animals buried in Arlington.
The kids were able to feed a few of the horses some hay and pet them. We had a great time there and we are so glad they told us about that.
Ft Myer is on the backside of Arlington so we walked through there and saw the Confederate memorial and the tomb of the unknown. While we were at the tomb, we were lucky to see the changing of the guard.
It was such a great way to spend a day.
