A opossum update

Monday we opened up the chicken wire we had put up and put down some baby powder (to check for tracks). We also put the trap at the end of the porch with some cat food in it (and kept Boris inside). That night we heard him trying to get out and then, jackpot he got out, and caught in the trap.
On Tuesday after David got off work, he and Nathan took O'Perry out and released him back into the woods, to find his mommy and daddy. We sealed back up the chicken wire and now hope to live opossum free.
As a side note, David thinks that when we moved the arcade machine upstairs, it made it way harder for the opossums to get down.

Can I help you daddy?

Saturday morning started off with a trip to our favorite hardware store-Lowes. We did the "Build and Grow" class and made a pair of binoculars, so we can find pirates. Nathan got another patch to sew on his apron.

While we were there we picked up a few items for our afternoon project- ridding our house of opossums! We are pretty sure that they (all 3 of them) have been getting in under our porch and walking between the main floor and the ceiling of the basement to the unfinished portion of the basement, where they have been feasting on our food storage before coming upstairs to live with us.

Nathan kept asking "Daddy, can I help?" It was really cute. We tore up some of the porch boards and found a big gap in the cement. We put some chicken wire up in there and then cemented it in place. We thought we were in the clear, no problems all day Saturday or Sunday-until we got in bed. That's when we heard the clawing and scratching. David went out and pulled up one of the porch boards (that luckily we haven't screwed back in yet). We thought maybe there was a opossum trying to get in. Nope! There was one trying to get out! We trapped it in there.
We tried baiting our trap last night with some good cat food, to lure it in there. But the dumb thing didn't come down. So now what? We don't know. When David gets home from work today we will try and get it out so it doesn't die down there and stink up our house for months.
Wish us luck!

Nathan & Jake

Jake has been here this week taking a Lego Robotics summer camp at Kennesaw State University. Since they don't actually get to keep the robot they build, I thought I would take a few pictures so you all could see how cool it is.
Here is a close up picture of Robo, Jake's fighting robot.

Today Nathan had some arts and crafts time. He painted such a beautiful masterpiece, in the art world it is retailing for over 500K, but to us it is priceless.

Cheese!

4th of July

I don't have very many pictures of this years 4th of July, I forgot my camera at home. On Sunday after church we went over to Grandpa and Grandma Rygmyr's house. That night we went to watch the fireworks in Snellville. They put on a pretty good show. Nathan loved it, he was so excited to watch them. He kept saying all the colors as they would burst. For a while he would say "ouch, the fireworks hit my head". Then he kept asking to hold them, he was pretty cute.

David and his dad ran the Peachtree Road Race on the morning of the 4th. It is a huge 10K (6.2 miles) in downtown Atlanta. They did a great job and finished 39,000th, practically first place (there were 57000 in the race). After that we had a cookout and played in the backyard. After all that we headed back o our house hoping to light off some fireworks there, but it started raining.

It was a really fun 4th of July weekend!

Train museum

While Aunt Heather was here, we took her to the train museum, so she could see all the cool trains they have there.
Nathan had a lot of fun showing her around.

And then playing trains with her after the tour.
